I am heartbroken at how many parents believe that hitting is okay. :(

Doralee, all children are physical before they learn to communicate with words. My children grabbed toys from each other and yes, they hit. But NEVER in the face, that is an aggressive learned behavior. A child will push another child or hit their hands away from a toy as a toddler.

How do you teach your child that hitting another is not acceptable behavior when you engage in it yourself? Would you hit your neighbor if they angered you? It doesn't make it okay because the one you are hitting is little. Research has shown that hitting does NOT deter negative behavior.
